HYUNDAI Motor Co Australia (HMCA) is poised to announce the expansion of its performance car portfolio beyond the newly launched Veloster SR Turbo at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney this October. HYUNDAI has entered the Australian performance car market in earnest with the launch of the aggressively priced Veloster SR Turbo. The SR Turbo joins the existing naturally aspirated Veloster range, which has led the sportscar sales segment every month since it was launched here in February, kicking off from a lower than expected $31,990 plus on-road costs. HOLDEN last month enjoyed some success with its export program to the United States as parent company General Motors delivered a record 500 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicles to various enforcement agencies. BIOFUELS will not get special consideration under a proposed revamp of the federal governments' Green Vehicle Guide next year, with officials citing a lack of objective evidence that such fuels are more environmentally friendly than petrol, diesel or liquid petroleum gas. RENAULT Australia is the latest company to offer super-low car finance, gazumping others by going all the way with a zero per cent comparison rate on four of its best-selling models, and available for a period of more than seven weeks. NISSANS' all-new Micra-based Almera light sedan is priced from $17,990 drive away as a special online pre-launch offer ahead of its showroom debut later this month. MITSUBISHIS' new Thai-built Mirage light car has gone on sale in Japan with hybrid-bashing fuel consumption as low as 3.7 litres per 100 kilometres on the Japanese JC08 test cycle and an opening price equivalent to less than $12,200. OPEL has grafted its grunty twin turbocharged 2.0-litre diesel engine from the Insignia into its smaller Astra range in Europe, creating a hot diesel small car with more power and torque than Volkswagens' benchmark Golf GTD.
